PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA — Premium outdoor event specialists Plus27 Events have officially announced the launch of the inaugural K2K (Koppie 2 Koppie) Trail Run, set to take place on 10 October at Die Bosveld, a pristine 2,000-hectare private sanctuary located in Doornpoort, Pretoria.
Stripping away the mass-participation crowd culture of modern road and trail running, K2K Trail is designed as a focused return to pure, uncompromised trail running. The event features four meticulously mapped routes crafted around a strict athlete cap to preserve the technical single-track and raw serenity of the land.
Athletes will navigate rugged pathways that predate modern tracks by centuries, winding past ancient Ndebele stone kraal ruins that dot the sharp koppies. The fully fenced private sanctuary—home to rich flora, diverse birdlife, and free-roaming game including Kudu, Impala, Waterbuck, and Blue Wildebeest—provides a wild, striking backdrop for an uncompromising physical challenge.
The event structure offers four tiers of engagement, each named after the geological formations that characterise the terrain:
- Sandstone (7km): A fast, punchy introduction to the rugged terrain of Die Bosveld (R495).
- Basalt (15km): A masterclass in pure trail running, balancing raw physical effort with sweeping ridge-line views (R695).
- Granite (25km): A brutal, beautiful journey across ancient pathways and unforgiving technical elevation.
- Quartz (50km): The ultimate test of endurance; a relentless, soul-searching expedition designed for elite distance athletes.
“We have spent over two years carving out a world-class trail network across Die Bosveld, a spectacular stretch of land that lends itself to a truly authentic, tough, and soul-inspiring race,” says race organiser Fritz Pienaar of Plus27 Events. “It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited to launch a new event. I can’t wait to hear what the trail running community thinks of these trails.”
True to the event’s emphasis on prestige and earned reward, the names of the Quartz Ultra-trail winners will be permanently engraved and ceremoniously mounted on “The Stone of Courage” at Die Bosveld, marking an immortalised chapter in local trail history.
To maintain the elite athletic focus and ensure a flawlessly executed, uncrowded race-day experience, entries are strictly limited to 800 runners across all distances.
